American Legion Post 11 Newsletter Oct & Nov 2009
Fellow Legionnaires:
Again I wish to thank all officers for the job their doing. The trustees did a fantastic job on the pole barn which is completed. Another sincere thanks to our girls in the social room, we do have the best officers & help that I know of. I thank all who donated money to the pole barn, it really helped. Lets all keep up the good work.

From the 1st Vice Commander:
As of this writing, we have 519 regular members, 93 department life members, and 56 PUFL’s on the books. That’s a total of 519 paid for 2010.

Greeting From the 2nd Vice Commander:
I want to thank everyone who helped me get my feet wet with my new position. I especially want to thank Ned Young and his crew for stepping up and taking over the fish fry. I know this is a dinner that we all look forward to having.
Over the summer we tried doing things a little differently by having meals that we normally do not have. Attendance was slim but we did not lose money. However, it was a lot of work by my crew to serve only 30 or 40 dinners – so we will have to evaluate before next summer if this was worth it or not. We tried to get members to sign up for dinners to help us plan how many meals we should prepare. That was a total bust. Except for the fish fries, I am going to prepare 60 meals and they will be available on a first come basis beginning at 6:30 p.m. on the designated nights.
Some fun things are coming up. Saturday, October 31 is a triple header. It is the $5,000 drawing night, we are having a Halloween Party with prizes for the best costumes, and our own Tommy Clark is providing entertainment. To cut down cost food will be pot luck. Bring a dish that you would like to show off to your friends. Friday, November 20 will be our holiday meal. That should bring back memories of active duty w/ turkey roll, mashed potatoes, dressing, rolls and desert. The good news is this time you will not have to eat it out of a mess kit. Saturday, November 21 is our traditional “beat that team up north Saturday”. That means pot luck, games, and lots of fun.
Put a couple of things on your calendar – New Year’s Eve will be another blow out to usher in the New Year. We are going to try to vary the menu to add a little variety and fun to the meals. Sometime during Lent we are going to have a sea food buffet. If you have any other ideas for meals or activities– let me know and I will be glad to take it under consideration. Also, let me know which meals you like and those that maybe you would like not to see again.

Chaplain Corner:
In his last few days on earth Jesus told his disciples that, he was going away to prepare a mansion for them in His Father’s house, and that he would come back again to take them, and anyone else, who believed in him, to that place called Heaven. Well, for two thousand years Jesus has been building those mansions and one day Jesus will reach back to get another nail and the Father will take him by the hand and say, “it is finished”. He will then dispatch the angel to come and get us; who believe, to take us home
